Adaptive radiotherapy is a type of radiation therapy that enables physicians to adjust radiation dosages based on changes in a patient’s tumor or underlying medical condition. Utilizing a timed adaptive replan yields the greatest dosimetric improvement. The strategy is not limited to a single treatment modality. Instead, it can include a number of offline and online strategies that can help improve treatment planning, improve outcomes, and limit changes to the body.

Adaptive radiation therapy is a closed-loop procedure in which treatment parameters are adjusted depending on systematic feedback from measurements made during radiation therapy. This procedure can boost the effectiveness of radiation therapy by incorporating adjustments to the treatment plan as soon as possible. Adaptive radiotherapy permits physicians to personalize a patient’s treatment strategy, including the field margin and dose. With this technology, patients can get a bigger dose of medicine with less side effects and radiation.

In the treatment of lung cancer, adaptive radiation therapy can be used to target cancers that have not responded to traditional therapies. It is essential to recognize that the ART technique has a number of limitations. A poorly planned therapy can have a bigger than anticipated effect on the tumor, and a poorly fitted treatment plan can raise a patient’s risk of dying from lung cancer. In an investigation, a single dosage of 45–66 Gy of 3DCRT/IMRT was administered to a group of patients with stage I–IV non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Currently, the narrow therapeutic index of conventional RT therapies limits their effectiveness. To eradicate tumors, certain amounts of radiation are required, but these quantities cannot be administered to normal tissues without causing significant damage. Normal structures can be taken into account with an adaptive dosage of radiation, allowing a patient to be treated with less invasive radiation. This is an exciting breakthrough in the field of radiation.
